  • Far-right radical paramilitary organization Hungarian National Guard (Magar Nemzeti Gárda) members participate in recovery works in Devecser in Hungary's Veszprem county has been flooded by toxic sludge released by a dam accident in a nearby container. The toxic chemicals left its red marking on all the walls of the houses in and out and covered all moveable belongings and streets killing people and animals. Red sludge is a waste from bauxite fefining that has a strong caustic effect. The toxic flood covered an area of over 800-1,000 hectares (1,920-2,400 acres). Seven people were killed and more than 150 injured in the disaster. Pollution from the red sludge now spread into the local rivers killing all life in rivers Marcal and Torna and now it mixed into the main European waterway river Danube. Officials say there is no risk of a biological or enviromental catastrophe there. Devecscer, Hungary, Saturday, 09. October 2010. ATTILA VOLGYI
